Tenor Roumen Doikov had all the power and resonance one could ask for in the role of Calaf, the prince who outwits Turandot. His 'Nessun dorma' was replete with sumptuous, burnished tones. As Turandot, the ice princess, Olga Chernisheva convinced onlookers that she could melt into an ardent lover at the end, a feat not often encountered. Her singing was totally secure and she gave every word its full weight.
