The star of this performance, however, was Adina Aaron, the Liù. She had the lustrous sound and vocal power required for this role as well as an impressive array of dramatic tonal colors. A fine actress, she moved the audience to tears with the emotional intensity of her death scene. Ping, Pang and Pong, characters originally from the Commedia dell'Arte, were portrayed with vocal panache and proficient characterization by baritone Hristo Sarafov, and tenors Yuri Nikolov and Georgi Dinev.
