As Amneris, Mariana Pentcheva gave a sterling performance. She was charming with Radames but haughty and unfeeling when dealing with her slave, Aida. Her voice is distinctive and she infused it with emotional fire that added to the excitement of the Judgment Scene. Mark Rucker sang Amonasro with ringing tones which contrasted well with the darker, stentorian sounds of the Egyptian king, José Gallisa. Reinhard Hagen was an authoritative Ramfis while Priti Gandhi sang the Priestess with beauty of tone projected with a fine technique. She is definitely a young singer to watch. Kenneth Morris was an impressive messenger.
