Conductor Valéry Ryvkin elicited taught, springy rhythms from the orchestra and the musicians produced an expanse of surging sound. The chorus was magnificent as always. This company has one of the best tenor sections in opera. Kenneth Heidecke's choreography added much to the overall performance and the dancers were interesting to watch. San Diego Opera's Tuesday evening Aida was a stunning rendition of the masterpiece that left the capacity audience cheering as the curtain came down.
