James Johnson was a nervous, harried judge who knew his position was in peril and sang with dramatic verve. Bonaventura Bottone seemed to enjoy the role of Licht, the court clerk, and he sang with a warm resonant sound. Steven Humes was an officious District Justice while Elizabeth Bishop was an ardent plaintiff. Richard Cox, as the wrongly accused fiance, Ruprecht, made a fitting escort for the lovely and sweet sounding ingénue, Melody Moore. Jason Stearns made Ruprecht's father a strong voiced curmudgeon.

This thoroughly amusing work makes its point with the final line:

None shall play the judge's part
If he be not of purest heart.
