The music is easily accessible, the characters memorable and the piece proved to be an excellent curtain raiser for the more serious work to come. Surprisingly, this charming work had never been seen in the US before. Director Darko Tresnjak treated the story with complete realism and his singing actors created believable portrayals. Set designer Ralph Funicello created a functional courtroom and costume designer Linda Cho dressed the participants in interesting rustic Dutch garb.
