<<< << -- 5 -- Maria Nockin SIMPLY GLORIOUS -- >> >>>
Most of the singing was simply glorious. Operalia winner, Erwin Schrott, was an outstanding Don, both physically and vocally. The role is a perfect fit for him. Maria Kanyova, too, was well cast in the difficult part of Donna Elvira. Her coloratura was clear and accurate and she did not have the difficulties with the aria 'Mi tradì' that many sopranos experience. Tall, lanky tenor Charles Castronovo sang Don Ottavio with endless breath and smooth burnished tones. His love interest, Donna Anna, sung by Alexandra Deshorties, was every inch the Spanish lady with her white wig but vocally she was uneven, particularly in the more dramatic music.
