Millennium Stage
The John F Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts has set up a Millennium Stage
(part of the 'Performing Arts for Everyone' initiative) which webcasts performances
of music in Real Audio. Archived performances are also available. You'll
also find lots more to see and hear at this site, which has English, French,
German and Japanese language versions available.
Pastiche and fugue
If you're a composer, there may still be time to enter the Pastiche 1999
Composers Competition - the closing date is 7 January 2000, and details
are available on the Pastiche website. Another competition which may be of interest
is pianist Tjako van Schie's Write a fugue contest, to comemmorate
the imminent J S Bach anniversary - open to all amateurs and professionals
who love to write music, contestants must write a fugue on a given theme
- full details at Tjako's website.
A Sinfonia and a Sinfonietta
The London Sinfonietta, with it's well-known paint splodge logo is online with an ambitious
website and an impressive commission and performance list with composers
from Abrahamsen to Xenakis. On the other side of the pond, Sinfonia Toronto is mid-way through its inaugural season
- a new professional chamber orchestra replacing the Chamber Players (which
folded seven years ago).
