Uncle from Boston
The newsletter of the Bavarian Broadcast Corporation is reporting the recent première by the New Philharmonie in Essen of a 180-year-old opera by Felix Mendelssohn. The opera, called The Uncle from Boston, was composed by the 14-year-old Mendelssohn in 1823 and tells the funny story of a romantic mix-up. The concert version of the opera was performed in Essen by the Bach Collegium of Stuttgart, conducted by Helmut Rilling, and received plenty of applause from the audience in Essen.
