Persona non grata
Following a performance of music by Wagner at the Israel Festival by Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Staatskapelle on 7 July 2001 and the protests by some members of the audience, the Israeli government has asked cultural organisations in Israel to boycott Barenboim. The Argentinian-born Jewish conductor originally agreed not to perform Wagner to an audience including many survivors of the Nazi Holocaust, but then he conducted, as an encore, the overture to Tristan und Isolde.
