Polish/UK guitarist, teacher, writer and noted guitar consultant Ivor Mairants records how, following the war, Segovia persuaded Danish/American luthier Albert Augustine (1900-1967) to experiment at making nylon strings yet technicians at the DuPont company, who manufactured the material, believed guitarists would spurn nylon's sonic characteristics.
On the contrary, some three years later Augustine succeeded with treble strings and from that time on the luthier received DuPont's unstinting help.

Having made good progress with the treble strings, Augustine worked tirelessly at winding (silver) nylon bass strings.
