San Diego Opera's offering for April is a full scale production of Giuseppe Verdi's grandest of operas, Aida. Aida, an Ethiopian princess who has been captured and enslaved by the Egyptians, will be sung by the American soprano, Indra Thomas, universally acclaimed as one of the world's great interpreters of the part. Her lover, the Egyptian captain Radames, will be sung by Uruguayan tenor Carlo Ventre, who has performed leading roles at the Metropolitan and La Scala. The strong voiced Bulgarian mezzo-soprano, Mariana Pentcheva, will portray Amneris, Aida's rival for the love of Radames, and American baritone, Mark Rucker, will sing the part of Aida's father, Amonasro.
