I could imagine a performance of the score which was thinner textured and more luminous than the reading given by Richard Hickox and the Royal Opera House Orchestra. But the orchestra played well for Hickox and there were moments of pure magic.

It would be nice to think that the Royal Opera will revive this production again as it is one that would bear repeated viewing, with differing casts. But given that it was previously run nine years ago, I fear that is unlikely.
