<<  -- 4 --  Robert Anderson    RADIANCE OF RECONCILIATION

-------------------------------

Bohème demands above all teamwork, and this DVD provides it. If Musetta looks more striking than she sounds, the Bohemian four are beautifully characterized, and Mimi has the vocal range to ride the Puccinian orchestra while manifestly fading throughout the evening. Despite the Italian yearning to congratulate every successful high note, applause at this live performance is under strict control. The orchestral playing under Bruno Bartoletti has not the fineness studio conditions might have lent; but the pacing is first rate, and there is tenderness enough to back Puccini's every assault on our emotions.
