Recent BSO stagings have included the world première of Aribert
Reimann's The House of Bernarda Albas (also recently staged at the
Tiroler Landstheater in Innsbruck, where Brigitte Fassbaender is Intendant)
with Helga Dernesch in the title role as Lorca's formidable Spanish
matron, Harry Kupfer, directing and Zubin Mehta conducting; Bryn Terfel
as Falstaff opposite Marjana Lipovsek's Mistress Quickly; David Alden's
new staging of The Queen of Spades; The Rake's Progress, with
a cast including Ian Bostridge and Christopher Robson; Juliet Banze and
Sarah Connolly in The Cunning Little Vixen; Arabella, with
Renée Fleming; and Alden's new staging of Das Rheingold, which
launched the BSO Ring last February and will be revived on 4 and
6 February 2003. Die Walkure opened on 30 June 2002, again with Mehta
conducting; and Siegfried opened on 3 November 2002, with Stig Andersen
as Siegfried, John Tomlinson as Wotan (The Wanderer) and Kurt Rydl as Fafner.
Götterdämmerung will open on 28 February 2003 and run to 28 March.
