Apart from the overture to Susanna's Secret, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari is seldom played these days. This is a great pity, as he wrote fifteen operas, some well-crafted and lovely chamber music, a violin concerto and one concertino each for bassoon, oboe and cor Anglais. His music is unashamedly romantic but fits well into the time frame of his life (1876-1948). I enjoy playing his Idillio-concertino for oboe and strings...
