Franz Joseph Haydn's symphonies are always intriguing, and these later works can count as some of the best. His output between the famous Paris and London symphonies includes many felicitious pieces, with No 91 being a particular case in point. The opening movement is marked Largo — allegro assai and has some wonderful inflexions, especially towards the end, which are beautifully handled by René Jacobs and his Freiburgers...
