Unalloyed Pleasure
Maria João Pires plays Mozart -
heard by the late HOWARD SMITH'... an exactitude and classical stylishness that beggars criticism ...'

From the days of Pires' (Japanese) Mozart sonata recordings, complete on eight Denon LPs, the Portugese artist (born Lisbon, 1944) has been acclaimed for her classical poise and expressive clarity in these eighteen works.
At that time Ms Pires' (Steinway) recordings (made in 1974 at Lino Hall, Tokyo) were issued as a Denon boxed set, ref OQ-7214-21-N, now a collectors' item. In 1990 these Tokyo LPs were re-released on CD, No DC-8071.
Her solo discography centres on Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and the chamber repertory with French violinist Augustin Dumay (born 1949) and/or Chinese cellist Wang Jian (born 1968)...
