Vivat is the new label designed primarily to showcase the work of The King's Consort, which under the leadership of founder Robert King has participated in some ninety-five recordings — it must be a hundred by now — mostly hitherto on the Hyperion label.
Vivat is well under way. But like its close equivalent CORO, The Sixteen's dedicated label, which has incorporated other performers — organist Robert Quinney in the six Bach Trio Sonatas, for instance, or a ravishing solo disc for soprano Elin Manahan Thomas with David Miller on theorbo — Vivat too is making space for other musicians ('a select handful of distinguished soloists and ensembles') as well as King's thrilling ensemble.
An early beneficiary is the now youthful Allegri Quartet, who have launched a new Beethoven quartet cycle on VIVAT 103 [read 'Quiet but Clear' by Andrew Schartmann]...
