The little model church on the booklet's front cover bears about as much relationship to St Thomas, Leipzig, as my humble musicianship to that of Johann Sebastian. I shall never forget making my way into that glorious church, walking awestruck towards the east end and coming suddenly across a monumental stone slab in the paving at the entrance to the choir inscribed to be memory of the mighty cantor.
