An Unforgettable Image Orchestral music by Marga Richter - heard by PATRIC STANDFORD '... sure craftsmanship ...'

Marga Richter is celebrating her eighty-seventh birthday alongside the issue of this recorded compilation of two of her most substantial orchestral works, between which is a short and lively dance-inspired piece (Quantum Quirks of a Quick Quaint Quark), premiered in 1992 by Marin Alsop and the Long Island Philharmonic. Most impressive is her image of a solitary condor flying over the mountains in Peru -- Out of Shadows and Solitude. The listener is carried through the development of rhythmic motifs by a sure craftsmanship, and with a colorful ear for orchestration realizes the vision of 'this giant bird soaring through uninhabited space', which left the composer with an unforgettable image, well recreated in its closing passage as the bird disappears...
