Malcolm Troup's recital, heard by JULIAN JACOBSON, also featured Bloch and Britten
When I was very young one still came across the critical orthodoxy that the 'three Bs' were the greatest of all composers -- these being of course Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. In our happily more questioning times many other Bs (let alone As and C-to-Zs) might take the place of one or other of these, though Bloch and Britten certainly made unusual bedfellows for Beethoven in Malcolm Troup's stimulating and thoroughly engaging lunchtime recital for the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe at St James's Church, Piccadilly, London UK on 28 June 2013.
The programme was indeed a Beethoven sandwich, with the late E major Sonata Op 109 at its heart...
