Like many composers of his age, Jean Richafort's dates of birth and death cannot be ascertained. He was born 'circa' 1480 and died after 1547, a period during which all the musicians of the time fell under the immense influence of Josquin Des Prez, the legendary figure who raised the polyphonic art of singing to unimaginable heights. This magnificent disc focuses mainly on Richafort's 'Missa pro defunctis', a work also attributed to Des Prez, though the stylistics as well as source criteria point unequivocally to Richafort...
