Nicolas Morin's musical travelogue, following in the footsteps of peripatetic Parisian guitarist Thibault Cauvin, appears to be a catalogue of missed opportunities.
There's more insight and entertainment in 'Il Milione', Venetian traveler Marco Polo's account of his extensive travels (1275-1292) in China; We are not told whether Polo travelled with a 'guitarra moresca' (Moorish guitar) or 'guitarra latina' (Latin guitar); instruments descended from the Arabic Rebec and in widespread use by the thirteenth century. However Marco set out on his principal explorations age around twenty-one. He may well have had a guitarra with his baggage...
