Pianist Lara Melda won the BBC Young Musician title two years ago, and it's not hard to see why. The maturity of both her technical finesse and her expressive insights are astonishing (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 26 February 2012). The sense of expectation with which she invested the opening arpeggio of Beethoven's D minor Sonata, Op 31 No 2 was like a curtain being drawn aside before plunging us into the turbulence and mystery ahead...
