French-Cypriot pianist and composer Cyprien Katsaris has his own label, Piano 21. Born in Marseilles in 1951, he first hit the headlines when the ubiquitous Eugene Ormandy arranged his appearances in the United States of America with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His Schubert and Liszt recordings (P21 022-A) made his name overnight, but two newer releases have now entered the best selling categories:
On P21 042-A, live at the Schubertiade Festival, 3 July 1993, comes a suite of Ländler movements: sixteen from D 366, twelve from D 790, together with three numbers from 12 Deutsche Tanze D 420 and Schubert-Liszt transcriptions: Standchen, Der Muller und der Bach and Ave Maria (CD1).This is very stylish playing -- with all the correct nuances and beauty of touch...
