Rachmaninov's piano repertoire is very well served on CD but despite this popularity, it is always welcome to have different approaches to his very unique keyboard language. The two works on this disc have a dark and somber timbre, as with most of his works, but both have a valid rason for inhabiting this brooding sound world.

The Etudes were composed during 1916 and 17 and are Rachmaninov's first works before he left Russia following the Revolution...
