Ready Solace Brahms piano music - heard by ROBERT ANDERSON '... Atzinger is at his best ...'

Clara Schumann was the first to inspect the manuscripts of these late piano pieces, and her young pupil Ilona Eibenschütz may have been among the first to hear Brahms play them during her summer holidays, as she proudly told me. I failed to win a music prize at school when performing the last of the Op 116 set, mainly because my rival played the 'Waldstein' sonata. It may be also that I was insufficiently 'agitato'...
