Deluged as we recently were with almost non-stop Mozart, he remains a very pleasurable companion, as does Felicity Lott in music designed mainly for opera. Exsultate was in effect a sequel to Lucio Silla, written at the end of 1772. In a specially jumbled note to tease his sister, Mozart sort of explained that the motet had been composed for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini and was to be performed in the Theatine Church of Milan on 17 January 1773...
