Lars Vogt's grippingly memorable contribution to the International Piano Series at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall (Nottingham UK, 8 November 2010) opened with a sure-footed exploration of the mood-switches that take Janácek's In the Mists from passion to introspection and poignancy.
Has any composer been able to make major keys sound as tragic as Schubert? Vogt brought more introspection to the start of the Sonata in G, D894, unleashing a tempestuous central climax that flagged up further volcanic outbursts in the second movement...
