The Amaryllis Fleming Hall at the Royal College of Music gives its blessing to any cellist by its name alone; but that seemed insufficient reason for banishing the pianist Julian Jacobson on 15 November 2010 from the front cover of the concert programme, even if its inner pages gave him twice as much biographical space as was granted to his colleague. I was enthralled to hear how the strange lack of printed balance would work out in musical practice.
Years ago I sat in on a Cortot masterclass concerned with Beethoven piano sonatas...
