My last Wigmore Hall concert was quite as long as any modest opera, a medium in which Simon Keelyside has made a very distinguished name for himself. His recital appearances have been rarer, but this CD, recorded live at the same hall, confirms that the range of vocal colour that made him so impressive a Wozzeck at Covent Garden can be subtly scaled to accommodate also a wondrous variety of songs. Malcolm Martineau, whom I first heard when hardly more than a boy, is now a musician in the great tradition of lieder partners...
