The combining of marimba and string quartet is an attractive enterprise which requires some strong creative reinforcement to make it work. Alice Ping Yee Ho does have the imaginative resources and the delicacy of touch to succeed, and throughout the four movements of Evolving Elements -- Light, Water, Wind and Fire -- there is skilful invention and the evocation of particularly potent atmospheres.
