Hiromi Okada

Pianist Hiromi Okada returns to London's Wigmore Hall on 21 June 2007, 7.30pm to perform works by Beethoven, Arthur Malawski and Chopin. Considered by some as one of Japan's leading musicians, Okada's mastery of difficult repertoire such as Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata, and his award-winning recordings have attracted international acclaim and positive reviews.

As one of Japan's champions of contemporary music, Okada frequently returns to his roots with award-winning recordings of Japanese music and gives many world and Japanese premières, which have earned him a loyal group of fans who follow him around the world to attend his concerts.

His reputation for technical brilliance was cemented after his Wigmore Hall début recital in 1985, after which Hilary Finch in The Times praised his 'already remarkable artistry ... a technique of massive assurance, imaginatively developed to articulate a passionately engaged musical understanding'. Okada divides his time between Japan and Europe, where he performs regularly with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Piano Trio. He has appeared as a soloist with the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and all the major Japanese orchestras, and records extensively. His most recent CD release is of Humiwo Hayasaka's piano concerto.
