Paraschiv Oprea
The award-winning Romanian folk music composer, conductor, accompanist and orchestrator Paraschiv Oprea died on 21 March 2004, aged 67. Born at Dragasani on 14 February 1937 into a family of musicians, Oprea made numerous recordings of popular Romanian instrumental and vocal music for the Romanian state record label Electrecord (who are re-releasing some of his recordings on CD). He was awarded a Discul de Aur (Golden Disc) for this work, and gave concerts all over the world.
