Catharine Crozier
Catharine Crozier, the gifted American organist and teacher, died in Portland, Oregon, USA, on 19 September 2003, aged 89. She was born in Oklahoma in 1914, the daughter of a church minister, grew up in Great Bend and studied with Harold Gleason (whom she later married) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she later became head of the organ department. She gave recitals throughout Canada, Europe and the USA, as one of the first two American women organists with a professional touring and recording career, and specialised in contemporary music. Ned Rorem, whose organ works she recorded, was very appreciative of her work.
