Emile Renan
American bass-baritone Emile Renan died on 8 December 2001 aged 88. Renan was The Sacristan in Tosca for New York City Opera's first opening night on 21 February 1944, where he continued to take many other roles, and later staged productions of Carmen and Pagliacci. His teachers included John Daggett Howell and Eleanor McLellan.
