Chopin winner

18-year-old Chinese pianist Yundi Li has won the US$ 25,000 first prize in the year 2000 Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, becoming one of the youngest Chopin competition winners ever.

2nd prize was awarded to Ingrid Fliter from Argentina, 3rd prize to Alexander Kobrin from Russia, and 4th to Sa Chen from China (who also shared the prize for best performance of a polonaise with 1st prizewinner, Yundi Li).

The competition, one of the world's most highly regarded, remained without a first prizewinner in 1990 and 1995.
