Jean Martinon
French conductor Jean Martinon was born in Lyons on 10 January 1910. He studied composition with Roussel and conducting with Munch, to whom he acted as Assistant with the London Philharmonic in 1946. Later he conducted many world-class orchestras, both in Europe, Israel, and USA. He was a composer with four symphonies and an opera to his credit, as well as concertos and chamber music. He died in Paris on 1 March 1976.
