<<< << -- 5 -- Roderic Dunnett COLOUR AND FLAIR

Nardini wrote plenty in parallel thirds, whose superb pairing by Formenti and the ever-perceptive Saporiti appears one of the big pluses throughout the disc. But it's his gift for varying this, arcing out in unexpected directions and at least making as if to swap the parts around, that renders this musica di tavola so very engaging and constantly interesting. Any initial recorded-sound doubts quickly dissolve and, so one can relax into a series of highly musical readings, even if the music 'does not execute great difficulties'. The disc makes me eager to seek out some more gems -- Nardini's string quartets, perhaps? -- of new Baroque and Classical recordings.
