The 2008 season opens with VWO (plus wine and food) in the grounds of Government House, Wellington, hosted by the Governor General Hon Anand Satyanand and Susan Satyanand. The concert is titled An Afternoon in St Petersburg (no resemblance !!) and features -- Sabre Dance, Waltz from Swan Lake, Firebird with Footnote Dance and a mandatory 1812 Overture with (naturally) canons and bells. Concert FM (Radio NZ) production manager, Cotswold-born Kate Mead is MC.

Another year's VWO partnerships include NBR New Zealand Opera with La Bohème (May) and Jenufa (October); the Royal New Zealand Ballet in Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet (July) and Minkus' Don Quixote (October); the Orpheus Choir of Wellington bring The Dream of Gerontius (September) and Sir Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum (November); Wellington Musical Theatre presents Cats (May/June) and The Sound of Music (September/October) and Kiri te Kanawa with NZ operatic colleagues Jonathan Lemalu (bass), Simon O'Neill (tenor) and Helen Medlyn (mezzo) present a summer evening Opera in the Park (February) in Nelson, a provincial coastal town; NW South Island.
