Since 1980 after moving to Paris, Bechara El-Khoury has been a jury member for exams at the École Normale Supérieure de Musique. In 2000 he received the Prix Rossini of the Académie des Beau-Arts (Institut de France) and in 2001 was appointed Knight of the National Order of the Cedar of Lebanon.
His catalogue includes some seventy works that have been performed in various venues in France, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon and Romania. Orchestras performing his music include the Orchestre Colonne, the Orchestre Symphonique Français, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, and the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra.
Some of his works have been commissioned by Radio France, Musique Nouvelle en Liberté, the Orchestre Symphonique Français, and the École Normale de Musique.
A violin concerto was recently performed at the Theatre des Champs Elysees, Paris, with concertmaster Sarah Nemtanu and the Orchestre National de France under Kurt Masur.
El-Khoury has recently been working on his second symphony, the fifth symphonic poem, a concerto for horn and orchestra (commissioned by the National Orchestra of France), and a clarinet concerto.
