<<< << -- 4 -- Anna L Franco BEAUTIFULLY ARRANGED
The last four chapters included are essays about the composer (Doráti in Context), his works and his own ideas about other composers and contemporary music (Antal Doráti -- His Creative Works), plates of his own artwork, a chapter of his recordings (Outstanding Recordings), and an essay by Doráti himself (An Anatomy of Conducting). Doráti's compositions included works for chorus, a vocal suite, Rhapsody for oboe and piano (Duo Concertante), a Cello Concerto, Nottorno and Capriccio for oboe, Seven Pictures for Orchestra, Divertimento for Oboe and Orchestra, Sonata for Assis (two flutes), and more.
The book is a beautifully arranged memorial of Doráti's professional life, though little of his personal life is explained. His photos, drawings, and some personal statements he made about his work do indicate his character, and one must infer some things from what shows through in his career. As is evidenced in the acknowledgement section, this unique book includes many thank yous that go to family and associates of Antal Doráti, editors and assistants, plus such institutions as The Antal Doráti Archive in Basel, and various symphony and opera archives. Chlupaty writes: '... this book is dedicated to music: past, present and future'.
