A Florentine Tragedy was given in its entirety and the orchestra lavished romantic playing on its ever changing orchestral colors. Rich voiced Tatiana Pavlovskaya sang the unfaithful wife, Bianca. Anthony Dean Griffey's resonant tenor voice rang out as he sang the part of the philandering Prince Guido and Donnie Ray Albert commanded the stage as the murderous husband, Simone.

This was one of Los Angeles Opera's most affecting evenings and some relatives of the composers were in attendance. James Conlon gave us musically exciting performances of excerpts from these varied works that show the progression of European musical styles during the first third of the twentieth century. It was a wonderful 'appetizer' and we can look forward to some 'entrées' at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion during the next few seasons.
