Characters are introduced one by one, and individual singers give a slant on how, with assistance
from John Pascoe as director, they conceived them and moulded them towards performance. But at the
outset we see the stage already steeped in political and amorous controversy, with a castful moving
confidently at the dictate of many a devious emotion

If there is an innocent abroad -- and the main female character is just such an idealist -- her
altruism gets many a sceptical knock; the lobbyist, though, with twirling parasol, worms her way
to an abundance of secrets and is already an accomplished artist at what is now mainstream
government activity.
