Friday night's Senta was the large voiced Elizabeth Byrne whose diction was excellent. She acted believably and created a strong character. Olga Krovytska, who sang the part on Saturday, had a great deal more color in her somewhat smaller voice and seemed to have considerably more emotional impact on the audience. Although her German diction was not quite perfect, she is a good actress and her Senta was a girl you felt you knew.

Korby Myrick is a fine musician with a pleasant voice. It's too bad that she did not have more to sing. Her Mary was a recognizable character as she prowled across the stage urging on the less able spinners. Singing the Steersman, the only other small role in this opera, tenor Daniel Montenegro also made an excellent impression with his smooth vocalism and appealing stage presence.
