The first painting of The Steinway Collection is of Chopin at the piano with George Sand and her son arriving home late, painted by A I Keller. Chopin is emotionally exhausted after fearing the worst when they did not arrive on time. It had been raining that evening, and the name of the painting: The Raindrop Prelude.

Each painting features one or more composers: such as Liszt and Wagner, Liszt alone at the piano, and Handel at the harpsichord. Some paintings are visual recreations of a composer's works, such as The Indian Suite by Edward MacDowell, as imagined by artist Ernest Blumenschein. Other paintings include both the composer at work and scenes from his composition: Mendelssohn is painted by Carl Anderson with scenes of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the background. Franz Schubert is painted by Harvey Dunn with scenes of the Erl King riding in the background.
The Barnes & Noble's Writers' Event was a musicians' and a painters' event as well: a winning triple axle event.
