Director Chas Rader-Shieber updated the piece by more than 200 years and placed it in the 'Disco' era. Since the title character's vanity is a trait that can be associated with any time period, Rader-Shieber's inventive late twentieth century drawings and props fit the main focus of the libretto perfectly.

The sets were simple but often amusing. One fascinating piece of furniture was a couch that resembled a pair of red lips. Costume designer David Zinn dressed his singers in striking 1980's style outfits and, in some cases, enormously high heels.
