<< -- 4 -- Ioana Osoianu TOUCHING HEARTS
A very specific feature found often in Jewish/Gypsy music is the use of the augmented 2nd (2+). This brings sadness and mellowness to the tunes:
'Mir foren tsur den vayten landt', the first phrase of 'L'Chayim, Comrade Stalin!', showing the characteristic augmented 2nd

Yale's orchestration, arrangements and compositions are unique, and that is not only because he uses folk instruments such as the accordion, cymbalon, saxophone mandolin, trumpet, and different styles such as Gregorian chant, jazz, Russian, klezmer, Jewish and Gypsy, but also because his music touches the heart of the listener. Sometimes we forget the real aim of performing music: to touch the hearts of the audience and bring them into a different universe -- one's own.
