The opera comes across remarkably well on recording (not true of many recent stage works) and the piece is strongly recommended as a beautiful example of current writing for the lyric stage

The singing and direction throughout is strong. The string section of the orchestra sounds smaller than would be ideal, but the playing is accurate and passionate.
For those unfamiliar with the wonderful music that is coming out of the Australian continent, this double CD set would provide a compelling introduction. There have been a variety of wonderful operas written by Australians in the past 20 years, and most are unfamiliar outside of the country.
We can only hope that record labels will give us more of Henderson's many other compositions in the future. She writes a beautifully lyrical, distinctly Australian music [listen -- CD 2 track 3, 0:00-1:48].
